Firearms for Defense - Choosing the right  Guns

Let's face it, the movies have some really cool guns, used in impossible scenarios, while it's entertaining to watch on the big screen...it's not practical thinking for real-life scenarios!

Most scenarios involve home invasions, burglaries, rioters, looters.  So, you need to pick firearms that are or will be:

A) Be familiar to you such as pistols, shotguns, long rifles.  Buying some hi-tech piece of military hardware is not only a waste of money...but it's also likely to get you killed! Front Sight Firearms Training Institute is definately worth a visit if you're not sure of  your firearm skills, or have never used one before.  Disaster time is NO time to try and learn how to use a firearm!!

B) Be practical for intended use, so forget about the rambo, terminator, mad max ideas, think about how, where and on what the weapon will be used.  I like to keep this in mind...whatever I aim at I intend to KILL so it cannot kill me first!  As a very basic cache you should have a pistol, shotgun, long rifle and perhaps a couple extra for trade when needed.  Don't go buying up the entire gun store or you'll find out pretty quick...the government's watching you!

C) Have ammunition you can readily re-supply when needed. I know 9mm's are so 'yesterday' but you know what?...ammo for them can be found anywhere!!  Personally I'd not mind a good .40 cal or a faithful old .357

D) In case  you missed it, a Firearms Safety Course is highly recommended for everyone.  I can't tell you how many people make so many mistakes with firearms that either result in their own injury/death, or the injury/death of an unintended target.  The best way to treat ANY Firearm is as if it's loaded at all times!
